The Becket Quarry sits in it’s silent existence…a far cry from its heyday when   workers drilled granite for 12 hour days, pulling out giant blocks by its derricks to load on flat cars of the small but mighty Chester and Becket Railroad.  The granite made its way down the 5 mile railroad to Chester Factory Village to be cut and polished to beautiful monuments at the Chester Granite and Polishing Works and shipped across the country on the Boston and Albany Railroad.  Join us Sunday October 4th at 1pm on Hampden Street to walk the railroad bed and learn how this joint effort between the towns of Chester and Becket changed both towns.

People continue to cliff jump here, we pulled a contractor bag of trash out this day, note the trash sign that was here, they also have created a zip line across the quarry.  We hope the Trustees figure out a way to officially reopen this historical place, so important to us Hilltown people and all for history sake including those of us who donated alot of $ to save it from becoming the Boston big dig gravel pit.
