Too hot to hike on Friday! Goose pond is located on the border between Lee and Tyringham.  There are summer homes along half of the lower larger pond while the upper pond seems almost wilderness like. The causeway splitting the two ponds contains a Native American cemetery. Upper Goose intersects the Appalachian Trail and the Goose Pond Cabin for hikers sits on its shore. The island has an old telescope base. Four thousand acres surrounding the upper pond were purchased by the National Park Service to be included as part of the Appalachian Trail Corridor. Seven miles of paddling total with both ponds.
The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife have designated this as a premier coldwater pond and a special brown trout designation.
