Chesterfield Granite Quarry:
The new quarry opened in Chesterfield which contained a rare white granite. A road was built 1.5 miles long up the mountain through solid rock and was trucked through Huntington to Chester. The Chester Granite Co. acquired 158 acres in Chesterfield purchased from the Bisbee brothers of high-grade granite for monuments. The granite is of light and dark ledges.1890 E.H. Beer, Dr. H.M. Stafford, George Rich and H. W. Scott (all from North Adams) purchased 650 acres of land in Chesterfield and formed the Chesterfield Lumber and Granite Company. Land also contains a granite quarry with three dark varieties of granite. You can see this granite at the Bisbee Mill Museum or at our Chester Granite and Polishing Works
