On Sunday we went deep into the stone industry history with an Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area sponsored interpretive tour at our Chester Granite and Polishing Works proprty.  Greg, Frank and Liz, interpretive guides led an interactive tour with photos of stone mill workers, diagrams of derricks, steam engines and a full go thru of the operation of stone cutting here in Chester which was supplied by granite of the Hudson and Chester quarry in Becket predominantly.  We were honored to have descendants of the proud men who worked here on the tour and changed this part of the Hilltowns to a bustling, populated center.
