Every state forest has old discontinued trails.  Here at Chester Blandford State Forest in Chester there were trails from the old Chester Campground including the Lookout Ledge Trail up on ledge high above the Campground.  There was also a trail that climbed steeply up the mountainside that connected to the Mica Mine Trail and Newman Marsh Trail getting you to the very top making a loop to the Sanderson Brook Falls trailhead. Modern day mapping like lidar make these old routes followable if you are very good with gps. These trails are hardly blazed anymore (just a few here and there) and not maintained but do include the history of this big State Forest that encompasses both Chester and Blandford. A big reason why these trails are no longer maintained are because of extreme slope, erosion problems and areas that do not connect to the main trail system and of course limited staffing to maintain these trails.
