Upper Goldmine Falls, the trail continues up the mountain to cross Goldmine Brook at a washed out bridge. When the water is too high to cross, take the high water trail on the upper ledge marked with blue blaze. At the upper falls, the high water trail is one side of the brook, where the Goldmine Trail is on the other. We did do both on this hike crossing the brook on the way back during high water!
Just one of the many amazing trails in Chester is Goldmine Falls located just off Route 20 next to the DCR headquarters you will hike literally ten feet from pavement to a surreal waterfall gorge. Goldmine Brook starts in Blandford high up near Green Mountain making its way to the Westfield River. The just over one mile trail was created long ago by the CCC and includes stone laid culverts and once had a bridge over the falls. This trail, in the Chester Blandford State Forest connects to Observation Hill. Trail is relatively steep and not blazed. The lower falls are dramatically different from the upper falls.
