Field trip to the North Becket Historic District, this is Ballou Memorial Park along Yokum Brook. In 1935 the Ballou family donated the original homestead and gristmill land after all was washed away in the 1927 flood which created a 300 ft wide by 30 ft deep gully. Located on Main Street (route 8), we found four honor roll memorials, the original Becket Railroad Station sign, a Ballou grist mill stone used for grinding corn and an authentic Native American corn mill stone more than 450 yrs old from Peru. A detailed description of all can be found at townofbecket.org
