Sunday we snowshoed on the Chester and Becket Railroad Trail in Chester, trailhead on the corner of Hampden St and Route 20.  This time of year is great for doing historical research as the snow accentuates relics like old bridges and culverts.  Here a stone post is set along the railbed used as mileage and alignment markers when the railroad was built.  The old bridge abutment crossing over to Route 20 can be seen, once used as the connection to the Macia Emery Mine. Karen stands in front of the lower Old Mine entrance on the trail. History is everywhere in the woods of Western Massachusetts!
