Joel Daniels cellar hole in North Becket a very remote place.  In 1858 he set up a sawmill here, along the West Branch of the Westfield River and the old road to get here was the Pontoosac Turnpike including a bridge over the river which only remnants remain as well as a dam used for water power.  At the same location granite blocks can be seen along the Boston and Albany Railroad which were dumped here when the original stone railroad bridges were destroyed during the floods when the Wheeler Claflin Dam broke in Becket.
