Old Captain Whitney Road in Becket once continued into the valley between Mount Gobble and Gobble Mountain. The ridgeline farms here had views of Gobble Mountain and grazed their animals here, we actually could see the old airway beacon. William Rose owned the homestead just before Austin Brook, he moved to 157 Middlefield St in Chester, before 1930. Almeron Edwards owned the big farm on the left, before Rose. James Mcmahon, owned the farm on the right, before Rose. He was married to a Harris. The Harris Cemetery is just a bit further down the road and is the oldest Cemetery in Becket. This is the Mcmahon homestead. Thank you to Tom Hoffman and Gail Kusek for researching the families who occupied this wild north east corner of Becket.
