The Church Scouring Mill. Private Property with permission. Middlefield Factory Village is tucked away in the valley of Factory Brook, coming down from the town center on Town Hill Road it has glorious views of the Hills as you descend into once the busiest most populated factory industry settlement making wool and the satinet to clothe fine gentlemen and military men. With the assistance of Doug Lyman lidar mapping genius, we set out to uncover all that the floods and forest have taken back. How many historic sights can you see in five hours covering only 1.5 square miles? Let me tell you….ALOT! We were contacted by a land owner after our Middlefield Historic group hike with DCR narrative coordinator Alec Gilman this summer to see even more of the Church and Blush mills, the over 200 year old village where merino wool was first made and when Middlefield was the woolen capital of the country!
