The Sheffield to Monterey section of the Appalachian Trail a total of 7.1 miles takes hikers from Three Mile Pond in the valley up East Mountain to 1800 ft and along the edge of Warner Mountain. This hike is a journey thru archeological time. Ice Gulch both beautiful and savage and runs a half mile with cliffs 100 feet above the deep gorge filled with boulders, if you listen close you hear a stream deep below. The gulch still contains snow in May. There are several caves here as well. Ice Gulch is just one mile on the AT from Lake Buel Road (parking here) on the Great Barrington/Monterey line.
