Flash Hike Friday on the old Huckleberry Trolley Line bed in Becket and Otis. After hiking the old Lee Westfield Road from one Otis/Becket town boundary to the other (see previous post) we took the Trolley back. This section of the line travels through the SW corner of Becket over Whitings Bridge as the grade rises to its highest point near the present day Williams Stone Quarry, which was the original Newell Quarry which was still in operation and used the trolley line for granite transportation! What a view those passengers had, wow! The line got murky and wet right where the Turnpike cut thru it, however we found a rare artifact there! Photos and maps from our research of materials courtesy of Gail Kusek Becket Historical and the Berkshire Street Railway publication and our own Karen at Russell Historical.
