Garnet Peak Flash Hike, views of Richmond Fire Tower and the Yokun Seat and plenty of Garnets! New DCR signage on Curtin Road so you actually dont get lost! No cell service in the wilds of Peru. In 1935 Peru State Forest was the prime getaway destination. “Lookout Tower Will Cap Garnet Peak, 2200- Foot Crown of State Reservation-1500-Acre Acquisition and Development of Game Preserve With Three Big Ponds Considered. Picnic grounds made by CCC workers including two ponds, for swimming and stocked with trout for fishing.
A gravel road has been constructed on the north of Middlefield Road, where all the State’s 2000 acres of mountain and plateau land lies. Several additional miles of road are planned, including three off the present route, all with scenic mountain views to Worthington and Huntington picnic tables, pavilions, fire pits and more were built here. This plan involves buying 1500 acres on the south side of Garnet peak, the 2200-foot high Road. In this area are three dried-up pond beds, Goose Pond, Jasenti Pond and Factory Pond making it a potential game preserve. A Ioockout tower will be bulit on Garnet Peak. Plantings include about 100.000 young trees.”
Sadly the State Park was eventually closed due to “no toilets, no drinking water supply…”
