Basin Pond was twice dammed, once for high-end real estate, once for hydroelectric power. In the end both broke and both caused terrible damage. The trailhead is off of Becket Road in Lee, the parking area is small. The rock work is some of the best in Berkshire County including stepping stones over a brook, a wood bridge, a rock slab bridge and portions of the trail that take you around bus sized boulders. We took the longer loop which is over looking Basin Pond then down to the platform built over the earthen mound of the dam. 2.6 miles to complete the loop. This is a Berkshire Natural Resources Council conserved property.
