CCC Memorial Ceremony Thursday, December 16, 2021, 2:30pm

On December 16,1934, five young men, enrollees with the 196 Company, Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) at Sandisfield State Forest, were tragically killed in a truck accident on Three Mile Hill in Great Barrington.

On this 87th anniversary of that event join historian and re-enactor, Kevin Titus, DCR staff, friends and neighbors, to honor the memory of these men. Participate in a solemn ceremony at the CCC camp site memorial stone. Hear a brief recount the tragedy and following events. Place a wreath and hear taps as a period 48-star flag is retired. View artifacts from the CCC New Deal conservation program, instrumental in shaping the state forest system.

The ceremony is held weather permitting. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions.

The ceremony takes place at 2:30pm at the site of the former CCC camp, on Route 183 in New Marlborough, just south of the intersection of East Hill/York Lake Road. Roadside parking is available. Reasonable accommodations available upon request.
