Did you know there was an interstate canal system here? In 1829 the canal construction reached Westfield and continued North to Northampton and South to New Haven and the Long Island sound. Bob Madison, published author and great friend and historian presented at the Westfield Atheneum Tuesday the story of the New Haven and Northampton Canal Greenway. His book gives readers descriptions and maps of the way of the canal route including where you can walk, hike and bike it in great detail. Bob also addressed the future expansions of the Columbia Greenway in Westfield and nearby towns. This presentation was sponsored by the Friends of the Columbia Greenway.
