For all of you who love finding interesting things in the woods….at the Keystone Arch Bridges Trail in Chester, the artist retreat aka “Berkshire Cultural Center” was built in the early 60’s in an effort to become the destination for artists in the Berkshires. It was funded by a wealthy couple from New Jersey, Charles and Barbara Farmer, and the rumor was the wife was having an affair with the designer Waylande Gregory. The cost of the retreat went quite a bit over budget and the Farmer’s were having marital problems. Charles Farmer shot and killed his wife in 1963.
