Our weekend at Savoy Mountain State Forest brought us out to scout trails, meet the friendly rangers, catch up with a longtime Hilltown Hikers member and have a directors meeting! The CCC history here is incredible and this DCR State Forest accentuates it! There are four cabins along South Pond built by the CCC during the great depression. Horse hair for chinking the logs, original log cabin construction and no electricity with wood for heat with a stone laid chimney and hearth. Honored to be able to stay overnight in a cabin, where we soaked in the history, and enjoyed home cooked food on a cold and rainy night! Hint: always take Karen with you camping and you will eat very well!! The campground also offers tent sites, a beach and a good water supply. Look out for a group camp out here in 2024! Savoy Mountain is the home to over 50 miles of wooded hiking trails, as well as North Pond (sandy beach with restrooms), South Pond (year-round camp and cabin rentals available), Bog Pond with floating bog islands and Tannery Falls, a 100 foot waterfall.
