No shortage of trail work in the hills! We went to clear the Round Hill Trail, Hilltown Land Trust property in Chester, starting on the steep side, which is also a section of Unkamit’s Path #4. Stellar views and technical rock trail climbing makes this infamous route to the highest elevation in Hampden County, a destination for peak baggers. Natural rock foot holds on the mountain, switchbacks on ledges, nothing but technical yet surprisingly achievable for hikers, only a half mile of climbing with views to the East. Blowdowns have been cleared and alot of new stonework has been laid. New kiosk and loop at the summit was completed last fall. New kiosk for the Fire Road Trailhead will go in as soon as the hole we dug last year dries up! Part of the Chester-Connected trail network that takes hikers from Huntington to Becket all on a continuous trail over the best peaks and landmarks!
