Saturday during dual hikes Karen was leading Worthington Cemetery and the other half of us were hiking the Appalachian Trail from Lake Buel Road (parking) to the Tom Leonard shelter in Great Barrington just two miles in a bus sized boulder forest. One of the best Berkshire geological treasures lies here, the Ice Gulch. This section of the AT was re-routed from over East Mountain giving hikers a hardly noticeable 700 foot elevation gain to the shelter. We ran into a ridge runner who had been on trail two days. Ridge runners monitor the trails and make sure hikers are doing aok on their journey. This section is rated easy to moderate great for all levels if you would like to try a section, there’s nothing like the Massachusetts Appalachian Trail we love it!
