The “ice bridge” this will thaw out eventually and be under water, concrete bridge too, then we wait till late spring for the waters to receede and the wildflowers to bloom. The flood plain is ever changing.
One of the best open spaces in the Hilltowns for hiking or skiing is the Knightville Flood Plain. Today we started at the 2nd gate parking on Route 112 on the Worthington side and hiked in on Old Worthington Road, passing the Merrill Whetstone Mill and on to the old bridge and turned around at the Flood Plain parking lot. GAIA gps shows the old road/trail. Snow depth was about a foot but packed down by sleds. 1.25 miles to the bridge, 6 more miles to Chesterfield Gorge on the East Branch Trail from Flood Plain parking lot. #hikethehilltowns with the #westernmasshilltownhikers #huntingtonma
