Ashmere Lake State Forest located in Hinsdale and Peru is a small area including the South Dam and an island. The lake itself is 287 acres of paddling with a public boat launch at the South end off Hickingbothom Road at 121 Smith Road, Hinsdale.  The two parts to this unique lake are seperated by Route 143 which kayaks can get under the road and thru. Also, the lake has many inlets making for alot of paddling adventures, enough for a full day of paddling.  We stopped at Ashmere Island to explore!
