Up on the Shatterack Ridge Trail (blazed light blue) to cross the ridge and get onto Unkamit’s Path Section 7 (white blaze). Unkamit’s Path is the old Native American footpath running west from Bush Notch in Westfield on the New England Trail to the East connecting with the Appalachian Trail in October Mountain State Forest. The West/East Hilltown long distance trail offering mountaintop views and unique historical locations. Originally blazed by John Murphy and Henry Warchol from Westfield State College back in the early 1960’s. Parking on Russell Road, also parking along Carrington Road at the gaurdrail blazed white. Russell Road is not accessible in winter by car making for a 2 mile hike to access the ridge. Unkamit’s Path runs across both Shatterack and Tekoa Ridge coming out in Westfield at Reservoir Road. Please respect our open spaces and leave no trace.
