Sunday’s Flash Hike adventure took us to Savoy Mountain State Forest. Continuing on the old Tannery Road which has been closed to vehicles making this trail accessible only on foot, Karen and I set out to find some lost cemeteries. I have read that Savoy has some of the most haunted hidden cemeteries, and most lay here in the State Forest. Passing Lewis Hill, the road then curves sharply and downhill, at this intersection is balance rock trail but there is no sign. We continued on Tannery to find the Estes Burial Ground. Sourrounded by the red pines planted by the CCC during the great depression to reforest the land here, we found the cemetery along the road. Similar to the Dunham Burial Ground, we found immaculate squared off walls and graves in well kept condition. About 2 miles from New State Road.
