Sunday’s Flash Hike adventure took us to Savoy Mountain State Forest and beautiful Tannery Road and Tannery Trail where Karen and I set off to find some lost cemeteries. We got on the old Tannery Road towards Lewis Hill, Lewis Hill trail is the first on the right rising gradually up the hill on an old cart path. The cemetery is a long lost relic of the Shaker settlement here in the State Forest about 1.5 miles in from New State Road accessible only on foot, called Dunham Burial Ground also known as Shaker Cemetery. The Tannery Road has been closed to vehicles, however this is also the snowmobile trail and would make for great winter hiking.
