Mount Greylock State Reservation flash hike up Mount Williams. Hiking on the North side of Greylock for the day we got on the Appalachian Trail where it crosses Notch Road at the Wilbur’s Clearing kiosk heading South to make the climb on this very rocky section. A few switchbacks lead you to the summit and an easterly view from an outcrop which is overgrown but when the leaves fall would be great! From the summit at 2,951 feet, we continued the master ridge of the Greylock Range south, leaving the AT for the Old Summit Road Trail which is a 2.5-mile descent, dropping 1,483 feet, an average grade of 11 percent. We passed the old Chimney left when the Williams College building that once stood. This is still used as a ski trail in winter!
