From the 360 cam, Adams Overlook right on Rockwell Road looking over the town of Adams to the Hoosac Range. Named after Revolutionary War hero John Adams, the town long depended on Greylock’s streams, which powered its textile and lumber mills. Equally important to Adams was Greylock’s timber, cut to make charcoal, another power source. Today, with the mills closed, the town again relies on the mountain, a scenic landmark and recreational resource.
The Berkshire Cotton Manufacturing Company mill in the center of Adams employed thousands of workers between its founding in 1899 and its closure in 1938.

We spent this weekend at Mount Greylock State Reservation hiking Mount Prospect, Prospect Mountain, Mount Williams, Money Brook Falls, Wilburs Clearing, the Old Summit Road, Deer Hill Trail, Rounds Rock and camped out at the Deer Hill Shelter. Learning about and exploring this highest elevation mountain in the state is truly an amazing experience. Don’t forget to stop in to the Visitors Center!
