Ladder Rock in Granville, a local favorite to the summit of Drake Mountain. This mountain is full of mountain laurel and folklore. Mysterious creatures like the Cobble Mountain Critter hike here too, or so it’s said. Bordering the vast wilderness of Cobble Mountain Watershed and on the edge of outstanding views of the Pioneer Valley this trail offers everything. Starting at gate 1 on Old Westfield Road/ Wildcat heading up the old cart path we passed a large cellar hole, left from when lands were taken by eminent domain for Cobble, large old growth trees stand over 100 years old. The climb up the ladder is tough for some, the views are well worth it! We came back on old Winchell Road by the Granville Reservoir. GPS is needed here as there are several unblazed trails across the mountain, (only yellow blaze trail) great exploring for the experienced hiker and mountain biking too. Catch our group hike here July 22nd!
