If you read anything at all about the geology in Western Mass, it is fascinating. This area is plentiful in unique rock, minerals and wild finds! Large geodes can be found along brooks and rivers, giant pure quartz boulders, beds of mica, soapstone, and so much more! We came upon this quartz quarry, most likely from the early 1900’s while hiking off trail on Holiday Hill in Russell. Thank you to Jim Moore for helping us identify this find.
