At gate 10, here lived Michael Young in 1858 just off County Road.

Hiking the Schoolhouse Trail in October Mountain State Forest from County Road, parking and trailhead across from gate 10 before the reservoir high up on a knoll the Moose Loop gives great views of the sourrounding mountains and visits the Southern corners of Washington with a few cellar holes and hardwoods. This is a 5.4 mile spoon loop with 700 feet of multiple elevation gains and drops. We did not complete the entire loop this day, making it out of the woods before a snowstorm.
