Along George Carter Road in Becket, what may look like just a gully is the most preserved section of the Huckleberry Trolley Line. The trolley ties are still intact in this shaded area. The gully exists because the line was built to try to keep the grade as flat as possible, navigating the Hilltowns was no easy feat, as the crews of mostly Irish and Polish immigtants worked with the 1900’s technology tools. Horse or oxen with cart moving dirt, cutting the sourrounding trees to make the ties, some hardly squared off. Opening day for the Lee to Otis section was December 1st, 1915.
