Unkamit’s Path begins at its Easterly point here, at Bush Notch in Westfield on section #9 where it comes off of the New England Trail. Here is your trail connection from the NET to the Appalachian Trail. The UP travels through the hilltowns of Russell, Huntington, Chester, Becket, Middlefield, Washington and terminates in the October Mountain State Forest where it joins the Appalachian Trail at Bald Top on County Road. Some road walking to avoid private land owners, it is 44 1/2 miles long.

Getting out to hike where we could see the ground we headed for Bear Hole Reservoir on the Westfield/West Springfield line taking the New England Trail in to the loop trail at the Bear Hole Reservoir. We parked at Bush Notch at the end of Old Holyoke Road where section 3 of the NET crosses. Afterwards we explored a section of Unkamit’s Path Section 9.
