The Wright Emery Mine in Chester, one of six in Chester where Emery was first found in America and mined in the mid 1800’s. The cut follows the vien about 300 feet (1.5 miles total if you follow it across the mountain, the continues across to Gobble Mountain) and at least 30 feet deep. A shaft was tunneled here 80 feet down, now flooded. Tailings from the operation are everywhere here, also remnants of two buildings, (we found coal here) and a base of a winch or derrick near the shaft. Rockhounds love this spot for mineral collecting of Margarite, Diaspore, Magnatite, Epidote, Pyrite and more! The “magnetic mountain” offers up history and geological treasures.
