Mill Pond in Egremont is also know as Smiley’s Pond, great for bird watching! Stay right when Mt. Washington Rd. branches off from Rte. 41 in 0.2 mi. Pull off the road and park on the graveled shoulder along S.E. shore. Mill Pond is picturesque as well as rich in wildlife resources especially waterfowl. It is one of, if not the only place in the Berkshires where the common moorhen nests. Views of Jug End 1,520 ft and to the right Mount Whitbeck 1,870 ft. the high point. Both are part of the Taconic Range, which contains some of the oldest rocks on the continent. A must stop whenever you are hiking in the area, I stop everytime!
