Beartown State Forest offers up many 4×4 and hiking trails of all abilities and covers Lee, Stockbridge, Tyringham and New Marlborough. We went in from Route 102 to Meadow to Pine Street in Lee and parked at the big sign. Hiked up Benedict Pond Road on this leg, (which you can drive straight thru the entire forest 4.7 miles) passing the Beebe Trail, Wildcat Trail, and the October Mountain Trail to the Beartown Mountain Road/Benedict Pond Road intersection. The bridges and culverts were all built by the CCC in 1933 when the park was created. There are 10,000 acres here to explore and two summits, Mt. Wilcox and Beartown Mountain. History is still alive here with old growth trees, cellar holes and lost cemeteries, print a map and spend the day!
