The Town of Chester is a true thru-trail town. From the Becket and Middlefield border in Berkshire County at the Keystone Arch Bridges Trail to Hampden County across Gobble Mountain then over the highest peak in Hampden County on the summit of Round Top Hill down to the Chester Blandford State Forest and its two greatest waterfalls Sanderson Brook Falls and Goldmine Falls onto Huntington. ALL with it’s six greatest emery mines, numerous quartz and mica mines, Western and Chester Becket Railroads….without stepping foot on blacktop with the exception of crossing route 20 at Hampden Street for 30 ft. We have adventured this route and its many spurs to hilltown history which was once the common old roads and Native American foot paths, and it’s home base to the Western Mass Hilltown Hikers. How blessed our we that we may roam thru untouched woods, graciously conserved by many groups as a joint effort, including the town itself. As director of Parks and Trails in Chester, I feel we are truly the hub of Hilltown outdoor recreation!
