After spending much of the Fall researching Chester, Becket and Otis Quarry history there are still many unanswered questions, even though Dave Pierce and Gail Kusek answered many, the next logical step was Ed Williams. A last minute invite brought me and Karen to Williams Stone Quarry in Otis and directly in Ed’s truck for a tour!

This quarry is in fact the original Newell Brother’s Quarry located on a spur of the Huckleberry Trolley Line. At 1785 feet of elevation, it towers over every mountain nearby except Round Top Hill. The superb granite vien stretched from the original Chester Hudson Quarry in Becket (with various motions/smaller quarries) along the way, Mitchell Mountain Pink Granite Quarry, Chester Granite Quarry, Lawry Quarry, Whiting Quarry…. to this spot.

A Big thank you to Ed Williams for keeping the history alive and telling us some lesser known facts!
