Washington Mountain Marsh Trail pt 2 October Mountain State Forest
More from October Mountain Marsh Trail with Karen’s good camera! Flash Hike with Tod, Amy, Jim, Dayna, Tom, and hike leaders Karen, Russ, Kim and Liz.
flashhike on the Washington Mountain Marsh Trail in October Mountain State Forest on the newly repaired and re-routed trail which is now about a four mile loop mostly in the forest. The original is mostly bog planks under water. Tom Hoffman of Washington was our special guest today telling the history of the pond as it was built for water retention to prevent flooding of Lee below. The dam sprang a leak in the bedrock so today we have a beautiful marsh. We looked for moose along the water line, observed beaver activity and giant old growth hardwood in the forest. This is still one of my favorite hikes! Park at the four corners in the State Forest or at the trailhead. See the map attached courtesy of Christy Butler from his book “Berkshire Destinations” find it on Amazon! Also see the new updated State Forest Page on our website www.westernmasshilltownhikers.com
