The Marcia Mine in Chester, one of the six emery mines on the Chester vein running parallel to magnetic North. Dug in 1893, with two 440 foot tunnels north and south, this mine is closed due to the bat habitat. The old wooden bridge to it barely remains. The mines operated for more than 140 years in various stages from the mid 1800’s until WWII. They hold over 28 species of crystals in addition to emery, corundum and magnetite.
