Stony Ledge at Mount Greylock

Stony Ledge at Mount Greylock State Reservation

Parking at the Mount Greylock Campground Overnight Parking Lot on Rockwell Road 5.3 miles North of the Visitors Center.

Hike Rating: Moderate 5 miles in and back, mostly flat

Stony Ledge is a bare rock outcropping offering dramatic views of the Greylock Massif, the Hopper Valley and north into Vermont. The view from Stony Ledge is an impressive sight, looking over to the Mount Greylock Summit, more than a mile away, and down about 1,000 feet to the Hopper valley floor—an aspect described as “seeing the mountain from the mountain.” Looking North to clockwise we will see Mt. Prospect, Mt. Williams, Mt. Fitch, Mt. Greylock and Saddleball Mountain. The Memorial Tower can be seen from the lookout as well. We will hike a mix of easy single-track trails and follow a gravel road through the Sperry Road camping area at Mt. Greylock to the scenic vista of Stony Ledge. The route is mostly flat. Bring your good camera and a snack, the views are like no other.
