Hike Rating: Moderate Loops 4 miles total with options for a shorter hike
Join us for a woods hike on blazed trails through glacial boulders, mosses and old growth trees over babbling Cushman Brook on the Circle of Stone, Hemlock, Founder’s Loop and Vista Trail to an amazing overlook to the East of Round Top Hill and Gobble Mountain.
The Becket woods trails contain a mixed hardwood and hemlock forest with several loop trails. These are located to the North and East of the main Becket Quarry. Cushman brook runs through the center of the property and four loops cross it. We will hike in from the parking lot past the quarry onto the Founder’s Loop Trail then the Circle of Stone Trail where we will pass through several immense glacial boulders including one as big as a car. We will then continue up to a terrace and onto the Hemlock Trail to view a giant healthy Hemlock, (option for a shorter hike back to the parking lot will be offered here) then back onto the Founder’s Loop, gradually climbing uphill and back onto the old rail grade of the Old Motion Loop. We will then take the Vista Trail up to the grand lookout with views to the East of Round Top Hill and Gobble Mountain in Chester. On the trip back down we will see the Otis wind turbine then return back to the parking lot. The trail is a mix of single file, rail trail and rock hop. All trails are well blazed. We will cross small log and man made bridges.

Parking is at the trailhead 456 Quarry Road, Becket, MA 01223 in the parking lot. There is no parking in the road.Â
Be prepared for ice, snow, water, rocks, roots and mud on the trail. We recommend spikes/crampons/walking sticks for winter hiking. Maps and bottled water will be provided. We hike rain or shine.
