The shot saw blades and cutting technology at our Chester Granite and Polishing Works property was invented by Lester Williams. The metal shot pellets were mixed with water and that abrasive mixture cut the stone as it was guided thru the saw blade on the carriage. The photo shows the grooves in the granite blocks from this process.
The pit under the shot saw blade has a trough for the shot slurry mixture to be reused by funneling it to the bucket elevator where it scooped the mixture and brought it back around to be sprayed at the shot saw blade for cutting again. Jim Moore is shown here in the pit excavating the belt for the bucket elevator.
