Boston and Albany Roundhouse
Closed in Chester 1948 Ending 100-Year era.  It was used for diesel engines to haul trains over Washington Mountain, between Pittsfield and Chester. No longer needed are the “pusher” engines which were kept at the roundhouse.

Because of the strategic location at the foot of the mountains, Chester became an important center of railroading after the track was built about 100 years ago. When the roadbed was first laid in 1843, it was known as the Boston & Hudson River Railroad.The Chester Roundhouse..some of my favorites! -courtesy Chester Historical
