The Chester and Becket Railroad Bridge 413 went over were Walker Brook once ran and had a sluiceway to power Fays mill. The brook was diverted and Route 20 now lies where the train once ran. In 1929 this section of “Jacob’s Ladder” was also re-routed to avoid the crazy hair pin curves that caused many accidents, and you can still see the old road bed and a benchmark on the rock cut. The stone abutments for bridge 413 still stand along with scattered pieces of granite that fell off the train and you drive right next to it on Route 20 not more than 5 feet from the road.
