Blandford Knox 250th celebration Sunday presented the story of January 11th, 250 years ago with storytellers in costume including General Henry Knox, Solomon Brown, Levi Pease and Jethro Jones followed by five cannon blasts. The Blandford Historical Society hosted an open house following the event with Knox history. When Knox reached Blandford, he faced more challenges getting down the “terrible Glascow and Russell Mountains” but with help from Blandford locals his task was successful.
Young General Henry Knox made his way to Blandford today 250 years ago. The old schoolhouse, beautifully restored, still stands at the top of the hill by the junction of Route 23 and the road to North Blandford. The old church further along the side road was built several years later by the congregation which was organized in Knox’s time and used another building in 1776. Local legend says he used the churches (there were two or three at the time), and it seems quite probable that he would have used the schoolhouse as an “office” now the The Blandford Historical Society.
