Creating the Granite Posts at Chester Granite Co. (from our Hilltown Hikers members tour of Allen’s quarry fall 2025)
THANKS TO Tom Ragusa, Otis Historian, the 64 mile granite post on Coldspring Rd and 58 mile post on Norton Road have been placed by the Otis Highway Department. Both created by Allen Williams, Chester Granite Co.
In November 1775, General Henry Knox began his daring expedition to transport 60 tons of captured cannons from Fort Ticonderoga to General George Washington’s army stationed just outside of Boston. The successful transport played a key role in forcing the British to evacuate Boston in March 1776.
