The first grist mill in Middlefield was built by one of the pioneers, John Rhoads. This mill was located on Den Stream at the top of Glendale Falls. After being run for some years by Rhoads it was sold to James Nooney from whom it passed to Capt. Nathan Wright. It was given up during the early years of the nineteenth century. The old millstones can still be seen among the rocks at Glendale Falls.
