Saturdays adventure took us to one of my all time favorites, Mount Race in Mount Everett State Forest. The Race Ridge is a rock face section of the AT with outstanding views of the entire east to the Pioneer Valley and west to Bear, Brace, Frissell, Round, Bash Bish gorge, Taconic Ridge and the Catskills plain as day. The second highest peak in Mass, Mount Everett is just North, Greylock is impressive from here too. Hartford can be plainly seen to the South and the Twin Lakes.  Typical rock scrambling, and some bouldering on the approach sobo, passing the large cairn and heading downhill for .25 miles you get the full effect of the cliff….head down another 1.5 miles South to Bear Rock Falls and Sages Ravine.  Be prepared for snow and ice at high elevations from Nov to April.
