A Stone of Memory
This gravestone for Albert Moncrief (1828–1868) is not only a marker of one man’s life but also a testament to the granite craft that shaped Chester’s history. Cut and carved in the mid-19th century, stones like this were produced at the Chester Granite & Polishing Works, where skilled workers transformed raw rock into lasting memorials.

Each chisel mark, each polished surface, carries both personal remembrance and the legacy of an industry that gave voice to stone and permanence to memory.
